I'm one of those online shoppers who doesn't spend a dime until I've exhausted every money-saving option possible. There's no need to pay full price when you can get what you want with a discount.
But, this wouldn't be possible for me if I didn't use some helpful browser extensions that help me save money every time I shop. I technically could browse for deals myself, but that can take up a lot of unnecessary time.
Money-saving browser extensions automate the process of finding the best deals, so you don't have to dig around the web.
Below are some of the best browser extensions available and ready to save you money. You don't have to do much besides sit back and wait for the deals to come through as you shop.
Don't add anything else to your online shopping cart before you add some of these extensions to your browser.

How Do Browser Extensions Work?
A browser extension is like a small piece of software that hooks up to your web browser. Also known as a plugin or add-on, these handy little gadgets provide more functionality for your browser.
The ones we're going to talk about today all focus on saving you cash, in one way or another, online. They're best for people who shop online frequently and don't want to sift through tons of websites to find working promotional codes or current deals for online retailers.
Once you download a browser extension, it works in the background of your browser. Some of them have extra functions and settings that you can play around with to tailor them to your needs.
But, most of the time, they offer a set-it-and-forget-it way to enjoy them via your browser. You won't even know it's there until you need it.
Won't These Mess Up My Browser?
Some browser extensions could potentially mess up your browser. If you download an unverified extension that contains spyware or some other malicious software, you could end up with software that tracks what you do online.
Some browser extensions could also contain bugs that harm your browser.
But, the extensions I'm mentioning here have all proven to be trustworthy, and many are ones I use myself and can vouch for.
I do recommend, however, not to overload your browser with extensions. Doing so can cause a super slow internet browsing experience. The more extensions you have, the likelier it is that you'll run into some problems with clashes between extensions, too.
Plus, it's not necessary to have two extensions that do similar things, like a few of these do.
Instead, try out a few of them and see what ones you prefer. You can always go back and delete an extension if you find that it isn't right for you.
Now, on to the browser extensions that can save you money!
1. Piggy
Available for: Chrome, Firefox, Safari
Who it's good for: Lovers of Honey who also want a related mobile app for shopping discounts.
Piggy is probably the most related to Honey on this list. It does much of the same stuff, like finding coupon codes as you shop online and give you cash back as you shop.
Piggy also has thousands of partnered retailers and a virtually endless amount of codes in its database. You'll even get $5 to sign up. Honey is still the more popular extension, but Piggy does have something going for it that Honey doesn't: a mobile app.
If you shop using your mobile device, Piggy may be the better choice for you. You can use the app on your iOS or Android device to continue earning cash back and getting promotional offers when you shop.
You'll get up to $25 for every referral you make to Piggy who downloads the extension and makes a qualifying purchase. You can also get $20 bonuses after referring 100 or more members who remain active.
2. Ebates Cash Back Button
Available for: Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Chrome, Safari, Firefox
Who it's good for: The shopper who might be a little forgetful.
I've used Ebates for a long time and it's still one of the best cash back shopping sites. There are always incredible deals here and I could never get caught dead shopping online without taking advantage of cash back offers.
If you already use Ebates, this browser extension is something you can't go without. When I first signed up for Ebates, I would usually forget to visit the site first and follow the link to the retailer I wanted to get my cash back. I had to train myself to remember to go there first.
This extension makes it so that you don't need to remember to visit Ebates. You'll get cash back offers as soon as you visit a partnered retailer. Just click the activation button and you're good to go.
The Ebates Cash Back Button also applies promo codes automatically. It's really a forgetful shopper's dream come true.
3. Honey
Available for: Chrome, Firefox, Opera
Who it's good for: The person who never, ever shops online without a promo code.
Honey is, hands down, my favorite browser extension for saving money. I've had it for about a year and have not only saved hundreds of dollars on my purchases, but I've also racked up over $100 of Honey Gold in addition to my savings.
The way Honey works is by remaining in the background of your browser until you start shopping at online retailers. Then, it will pop up a message prompting you to allow it to search for coupon codes for that store.
It tests out every code for that store in its database and automatically applies it to your shopping cart if it works. Instant savings!
And, even if it doesn't find a working code, Honey will usually still reward you with a percentage of your purchase in Honey Gold, simply for using the extension. The reward usually ranges from 1% to 3% of your final purchase price.
Take one movie download. Honey Gold is the Honey reward system. Each Honey Gold point is worth a penny, so it's easy to figure out how much you've earned.
You can also visit the website to see current promotions where Honey has excellent offers to earn a lot of Honey Gold for a purchase at a specific store. A few weeks ago, I was able to earn 3,000 Honey Gold, which equals $30, for a purchase I made at HP.com using Honey.
Once you reach 1,000 Honey Gold, you can redeem it for a gift card, including Amazon, Sephora, Walmart, Groupon, and more.
4. Amazon Assistant
Available for: Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Safari, and more
Who it's good for: The avid Amazon.com shopper who wants to stay up-to-date with prices and orders.
Amazon Assistant is a browser extension from Amazon itself. This handy plugin has everything you need to be a wise Amazon shopper, from comparing prices on the site of similar products to keeping track of all your orders.
Where this browser extension can really save you money, though, is with its Watched Deals Notifications feature. If you're an Amazon shopper who loves keeping an eye on upcoming deals, you'll want to turn these notifications on.
They'll let you know when the deals you're eyeballing go live so that you can be one of the first customers to snatch up your product.
5. Qmee
Available for: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera
Who it's good for: The shopper who doesn't mind purchasing a different product if it saves money.
Qmee is a shopping assistant that runs in the background of your browser. As you search online for a specific product, Qmee will pop up as a sidebar in your browser and show you price comparisons for that product or similar products online.
You'll earn a few cents just for letting Qmee do its thing, but if you happen to actually purchase a product suggested by Qmee, you'll earn more. Not only does it save you money by suggesting products, but it also pays you money to use it.
Qmee offers another way to make some cash by taking surveys. Log into the site to do this, or you can click on the icon in your browser.
One thing I love about Qmee is that you can cash out via PayPal whenever you want, even if you have a penny in your account. You can also choose a gift card for Amazon, Starbucks, or iTunes if you have at least $5 in your Qmee account.
6. Offers.com
Available for: Chrome
Who it's good for: Promo code hunters who want to save time.
If you use the Offers.com website, you already know it curates some of the best online deals for just about anything you want to buy, from bedding to magazine subscriptions. The site even has the most current credit card offers available, so you can find the best ones to sign up for.
The Chrome extension is just as handy. It gives you promotional codes to use for your online shopping trips whenever it has one that matches the retailer you're shopping with. You'll get real-time alerts every time it has a match so that you'll never have to pay full price.
7. InvisibleHand
Available for: Firefox, Chrome, Safari
Who it's good for: The frequent traveler who books reservations online.
Most of the extensions we're mentioning in this post offer savings for shoppers. InvisibleHand does that too, but it offers even more. This handy tool can even save you money on hotel, rental car, and flight reservations! If you travel a lot for business, you won't want to skip this browser extension.
InvisibleHand has such a name because it remains invisible in your browser until it finds a deal for you. You won't have to worry about it spamming you with promotions when you don't want them.
Simply shop online or browse reservations, and InvisibleHand will pop up a relevant deal when it finds one.
This extension works in real-time, so it's consistently finding the most updated prices. That's a huge help when booking flights, especially, whose prices can fluctuate a lot through the day.
8. CouponCabin Sidekick
Available for: Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari, Firefox
Who it's good for: The price researcher who wants the research done for them.
CouponCabin is an excellent site to find promotions and coupons for online retailers of almost any type. The site is well-known for its $100 back on a purchase of $100 or more offers for several retailers, but there are also various coupons for free shipping, percentages off your purchase, and more.
Best Safari Extensions 2017 Pictures
CouponCabin has a browser extension known as the CouponCabin Sidekick, because it runs seamlessly in your browser, alerting you of deals you might have missed without it.
When you visit a partnered retailer, the CouponCabin Sidekick will pop up a bar at the top of your screen letting you know how much cash back you can get, how much bonus cash is available, and what coupons are available from that retailer.
The extension even gives you information in product search results right in Google to let you know how much you can save on that purchase!
9. The Camelizer
Available for: Firefox, Chrome
Who it's good for: The Amazon.com price-drop fanatic.
I'm not afraid to shout it from the rooftop how much of an Amazon fan I am. Apparently, other people are, too, because developers make some incredible tools for Amazon lovers.
Like The Camelizer from CamelCamelCamel, which tracks everything happening on Amazon to save its biggest fans some cash.
The website offers everything from product price history charts to a section where you can see the biggest price drops currently happening on Amazon.
When you download The Camelizer, you'll get all the real-time information the site provides, but in a handy window that doesn't require you opening a new tab or navigating away from the page.
It's important to note that The Camelizer does also work with Newegg and Best Buy, so if you shop at those retailers often, this extension can help you there, too.
10. Cently
Available for: Chrome
Who it's good for: Shoppers who don't care about referrals and extra stuff, but instead want a minimalistic way to find coupon codes.
Cently is a simple browser extension with an extensive database of coupon codes for you to use at your favorite retailers. Think: Honey, but without the cash back, Honey Gold deals, and referrals.
No, there's no extra way for you to make money with Cently, but if you're simply looking to save, then this little gadget is for you. Best media player for avi.
Cently remains invisible until you visit a site that it has a coupon code for. The extension will automatically start looking for coupon codes that work, and then apply it to your shopping cart for instant savings.
11. PriceBlink
Available for: Chrome, Safari, FireFox
Who it's good for: Shoppers who don't mind where they shop, as long as it gives them the best price.
PriceBlink is another money-saving extension that has tons of information in its database to give you the best deals at thousands of online retailers. You shop where you want and PriceBlink will let you know what coupons and promotions it has in store for that retailer.
You can also find out what other retailers might have the product you're searching for cheaper! PriceBlink has a database with over 4,000 merchants to compare prices for the products you're after so you never miss out on the best deal.
12. Wallaby
Available for: Chrome
Who it's good for: The responsible credit card holder who wants to utilize rewards.
Wallaby is the perfect browser extension for people who have several credit cards with shopping rewards, like double points or cash back rewards.
Unlike other extensions that find money-saving coupons for you, Wallaby puts your credit cards to work by finding you the best online deals and retailers to use with the credit cards you own.
You enter your credit card information and shop online as you normally would. When you're ready to check out, Wallaby will let you know which card will give you the most bang for your buck based on its current rewards.
As long as you're responsible about paying off your balances every month, you can definitely save some money shopping online with Wallaby by maximizing the rewards on your credit cards.
Final Thoughts
If you noticed, all of these browser extensions work with Google Chrome. There are even a few that only work with Chrome. If you don't yet have Chrome, you can download it here.
I started using it a couple of years ago and haven't looked back since. It's simple to use, fast, organized, and has a lot of functionality. Plus, you can get all of the above extensions on it, so what's not to love?
We hope this article gave you plenty of helpful money-saving browser extensions to try. You'll start saving cash shopping online in no time.
